Users of the Acuática Nelson Vargas branch in Angelópolis raised alarms once again about the deteriorating conditions of the facility and the ongoing risks they face. On Wednesday afternoon, July 8, 2026, heavy rains nearly caused the main roof to collapse, according to reports shared on Diario CAMBIO’s social media.
Videos posted by affected members show torrents of rainwater pouring through the roof’s sheets, flooding multiple areas of the sports complex. Despite charging high monthly fees, the management has reportedly ignored repeated requests for repairs to fix leaks and water infiltration for several weeks.
One user’s message summarized the frustration: “Today the roof almost collapsed due to the heavy rains. We want to denounce that they charge thousands of pesos in monthly fees and yet haven’t fixed the leaks for weeks.”
This incident follows a more severe event just days earlier, on July 4, when the steam room roof for men at the same branch completely collapsed. That failure, attributed to poor maintenance and structural weakening from rain, injured two people, one of whom required emergency medical care.
As of now, the sports complex’s management has not issued an official statement or proposed a definitive solution to these structural problems, which continue to endanger the safety of its users.
For residents and migrants in Mexico City and surrounding areas, this situation highlights the importance of reliable public infrastructure and maintenance—issues that also resonate with ongoing efforts to improve urban mobility and safety, such as the upcoming cablebús project in Puebla, which aims to provide safer, more sustainable transportation options.
