Pedro Sola, a well-known TV host, issued a public apology after sparking outrage with his remarks about dogs during a recent broadcast. The controversy unfolded as thousands of social media users and animal rights advocates condemned his comments, demanding a clear retraction.
In a video shared on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Sola explained that his statements were influenced by his personal background, admitting, “I never had a dog.” He expressed deep regret over the incident, emphasizing that he has never been violent toward animals.
“I’m incapable of killing a fly. In 30 years, I had never done something like that. I feel horrible shame; it’s also the age. Today is a different time… I learned something the hard way,” he said, reflecting on the backlash.
The apology video was posted by Ricardo Salinas Pliego, president of Grupo Salinas, who supported Sola’s acknowledgment of the mistake and reiterated the company’s stance against animal abuse. Salinas Pliego wrote, “I have always asked my collaborators to have the courage to admit when they are wrong and offer a public apology.”
He also clarified that none of Grupo Salinas’ companies tolerate animal mistreatment or promote violence against any living being. However, his message included a controversial aside targeting political critics, calling them “(los chairos no cuentan, seres tontos).”
Salinas Pliego assured that such expressions will not be repeated in their programs and extended an apology on behalf of Grupo Salinas. “We offer an apology and will double our efforts to protect any cat or dog in need. At Grupo Salinas, we have the responsibility to give a voice to those who cannot speak,” he concluded.
This episode highlights the growing sensitivity around animal rights in Mexico and the importance of public figures acknowledging their influence. For audiences who care about ethical treatment of animals, it’s a reminder of how words can impact social attitudes and the ongoing push for more compassionate policies.
