What began as a romantic moment during the 2025 Independence Day celebration in Saltillo has turned into a heartbreaking case that has shaken the community. Fernando “N,” originally from Mexico City, is now wanted by authorities as the main suspect in the femicide of Diana Marina López Mérida, the woman he publicly proposed to in front of over 30,000 people.

The tragic event occurred on July 6, 2026, in a home located in the Santa Bárbara neighborhood. According to investigations, Diana Marina, 41, was preparing to go to work at a department store when she got into an argument with her ex-partner. It is alleged that Fernando “N” attacked her with a chain, strangling her to death.

After the attack, Fernando fled the scene on a blue motorcycle. Reports indicate he was last seen near the Central de Autobuses, prompting the State Attorney General’s Office to launch an operation to locate him.

The case has sparked strong reactions, especially given the history of their relationship. During the 2025 Independence Day ceremony, while the band Duelo performed at Saltillo’s Plaza de Armas, Fernando surprised Diana Marina by proposing marriage in front of thousands. The moment was celebrated by the crowd and widely shared on social media.

However, investigations reveal a darker side: Fernando had previously threatened Diana Marina with death, a fact now included in the femicide investigation file.
