Puebla to Require Annual Vehicle Inspections for Uber and DiDi Drivers Starting 2027

Post by usertopnews

If you drive for Uber or DiDi in Puebla, get ready for a new requirement: starting in 2027, all ride-share vehicles will need to pass an annual vehicle inspection.

The move, announced by Silvia Tanús, Secretary of Mobility and Transport, aims to enhance safety by creating an official registry of all platform-operated vehicles in the state. While the exact date for the first inspection is still pending, the plan is to roll it out during the first half of next year, with a fee set at 620 pesos—subject to change depending on updates to the state’s Income Law.

To streamline the process, two inspection modules will be established, and drivers will be assigned dates based on their license plate numbers. Tanús highlighted the fluctuating number of active vehicles, noting that one month there might be 12,000 cars registered and the next only 8,000, which makes maintaining an accurate registry crucial.

Importantly, only Uber and DiDi are officially regulated in Puebla. Other platforms, like Drive, are considered illegal and will face enforcement actions once the inspection program begins. By mid-2027, Proximidad Vial agents will conduct operations to ensure compliance. Drivers who fail to pass the inspection risk having their vehicles impounded. Recovering a vehicle from impound will require paying fines and completing the inspection process.

Regarding driver documentation, Tanús emphasized the need for all drivers to update their identification cards to avoid complications during upcoming inspections and enforcement efforts.

This new regulation reflects Puebla’s growing efforts to formalize and secure ride-share services, a step that could improve safety and accountability for both drivers and passengers. For many drivers, this means adapting to new standards but also gaining clearer recognition within the state’s transportation system—an important move as urban mobility evolves.
