Seventh Fuel Oil Spill This Month Confirmed in Salina Cruz; Authorities Report Strong Odor

Post by usertopnews

Oaxaca authorities confirmed the seventh fuel oil spill this month in Salina Cruz, marking a troubling pattern of environmental incidents in the area.

Manuel Maza Sánchez, head of the state’s Civil Protection, explained that the spill originated from a leak at the E-Chaino oil field. “It’s heavy fuel oil, and it really smells very bad,” he said during a press conference.

Personnel from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) quickly mobilized to contain the leak and clean up the fuel, working closely with Salina Cruz’s Civil Protection team. The affected area has been cordoned off, and machinery is already in place to recover the spilled material, according to Maza Sánchez.

So far, authorities have ruled out any impact on the local population or immediate risks to public safety.

While these repeated spills raise concerns about environmental management, the coordinated response highlights the importance of state involvement in addressing industrial accidents swiftly and transparently. For communities in Oaxaca and beyond, maintaining vigilance and support for sustainable infrastructure remains crucial.
