Since the World Cup kicked off, Puebla has experienced a significant 37.3% decrease in intentional homicides during June 2026 compared to the same month last year. This encouraging development was shared by the state’s Secretary of Public Security, Vice Admiral Francisco Sánchez González, who credited the success to a coordinated strategy involving federal, state, and municipal authorities.
At a press conference led by Governor Alejandro Armenta, Sánchez González highlighted that beyond the homicide reduction, more than 1,000 operational actions were carried out across various municipalities in June. These efforts focused on prevention, intelligence gathering, and direct crime-fighting measures.
The vice admiral emphasized that these results stem from a unified approach aligned with the national security strategy promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum and Puebla’s own coordination model. The goal: to strengthen peace and safety for Puebla’s families.
Among notable actions in June was the arrest of Orlando Alexis N., allegedly linked to violent incidents near the Morelos market. Authorities also detained a suspected member of the criminal group known as CJNG and conducted multiple operations targeting fuel theft in Tlahuapan and Tepeaca—areas identified as hotspots for this crime.
Sánchez González pointed out that ongoing collaboration between security agencies, justice institutions, and federal forces has been key to targeting high-priority offenders and reducing violence in the state.
He also urged citizens to actively support these efforts by responsibly using emergency numbers: 911 for urgent reports and 089 for anonymous tips. “Citizen participation is essential to continue building a safer Puebla,” he said.
Looking ahead, the Secretary of Public Security reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen this multi-level strategy to sustain the decline in serious crimes and maintain peace throughout Puebla.
This progress reflects how coordinated public policies and community involvement can create safer urban environments—an encouraging sign for Puebla’s future as it embraces innovative infrastructure projects like the upcoming cable car system, which promises to improve connectivity and social inclusion across the city.
