Two Women Arrested for Trying to Smuggle Drugs and Alcohol into Mexico City Prisons

Post by usertopnews

On Monday, July 6, 2026, authorities in Mexico City detained two women attempting to bring drugs and alcohol into two separate reclusorios (prisons).

The first incident took place at the Reclusorio Preventivo Varonil Norte, where a prison guard noticed one visitor acting nervously. She was taken to a private area for a preventive search, which uncovered about half a kilo of suspected marijuana wrapped in brown tape inside her handbag.

The second case occurred at the Reclusorio Preventivo Varonil Oriente. A young woman’s evasive behavior during security checks raised suspicion, leading to the discovery of 500 milliliters of what appeared to be tequila in a plastic bag.

Both women, aged 27 and 36, were detained and handed over to the corresponding Public Ministry agent to determine their legal status.

These incidents highlight ongoing challenges in maintaining security within Mexico City’s prison system. While the authorities act swiftly to prevent contraband from entering these facilities, the situation underscores the need for continued investment in effective and humane prison management. For communities affected by incarceration, ensuring safety and reducing illicit activities inside prisons is crucial for social justice and rehabilitation efforts.
