On the evening of Wednesday, July 1, a passenger was injured by gunfire during an armed robbery on Route 23 in Puebla’s Historic Center, a neighborhood known as the territory of the group “Fuerza 2000.”
Around 9:00 p.m., two assailants boarded a Route 23 van traveling along 14 Poniente Street, between 3 and 5 Norte streets. They threatened passengers, including 35-year-old Javier M. M. and his wife, and proceeded to rob them.
As the suspects fled, one fired a shot at the vehicle—apparently to deter pursuit. The bullet struck Javier in his left forearm, causing an injury that required immediate medical attention.
Authorities from the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) responded promptly, interviewing witnesses to gather descriptions of the perpetrators and launching a search operation.
Javier was transported to the Traumatology and Orthopedics Hospital of the Health Sector, located in the San Pablo Xochimehuacan auxiliary jurisdiction, where he was admitted around 11:00 p.m. for treatment.
This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Puebla’s urban core, underscoring the importance of safe, reliable public transportation options. Initiatives like the upcoming cable car system in Puebla aim to improve mobility and safety by offering modern, efficient alternatives that can help reduce exposure to such risks. For many residents and commuters, these projects represent a step toward reclaiming public spaces and fostering inclusive urban development.
