Mexico’s humanitarian response to the recent earthquakes in Venezuela has reached a significant milestone, with more than 71 tons of food, medicine, and emergency supplies delivered so far. President Claudia Sheinbaum shared these updates during a press conference at Palacio Nacional on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The Mexican government has mobilized a comprehensive effort to support Venezuelan communities affected by the seismic disaster. This includes the deployment of the Yumare unit, a specialized team of 250 personnel conducting search, rescue, and medical assistance operations on the ground in Venezuela.

Between June 26 and July 1, the team successfully rescued two survivors and a dog, recovered 40 bodies, and provided over 1,400 medical consultations and first aid interventions. Additionally, 13.1 tons of medicines have been distributed to those in need.

President Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico’s aid package goes beyond personnel and medical supplies. It also includes eight emergency power plants equipped with lighting towers and solar panels, crucial for restoring energy in devastated areas. On June 30 and July 1, five and three power plants respectively were sent, alongside 80 kilograms of Red Cross materials transported in two logistical flights.

Looking ahead, the Mexican Navy is preparing to send a ship loaded with donations collected nationwide to reinforce ongoing relief efforts. This shipment will complement the 43.2 tons of supplies already delivered, including 28 tons sent on July 2, consisting of non-perishable food and medicines requested by the Venezuelan government.

The Yumare team continues to collaborate closely with Venezuelan authorities, conducting searches with canine units in collapsed buildings, clearing debris, and providing medical care. Their work highlights the importance of coordinated, state-led humanitarian action in crisis zones.
