On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, authorities in Hidalgo arrested Fátima “N,” the Secretary of Citizen Engagement for the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), following allegations of driving under the influence, excessive speeding, and firing a gun in the municipality of Tetepango.

According to the National Detention Registry, Fátima “N,” who previously ran unsuccessfully for local deputy in Pachuca’s district in 2024, was apprehended by the state’s Public Security Secretariat (SSPH) after causing public disturbances. Alongside her, Gilberto “N,” her companion, was also detained.

During the operation, police seized four live cartridges, three spent cartridges, and three small bags containing crystal meth. Fátima “N” remains under the custody of the Public Ministry while her legal situation is being determined.

The PVEM Hidalgo Executive Committee announced that she has been temporarily suspended from her position as Secretary of Citizen Engagement pending the outcome of judicial investigations. The party emphasized that this decision aims to protect both the institutional integrity of the PVEM and public safety. They expressed respect for the rule of law and the decisions of the competent authorities.

The party also condemned her actions, stating they contradict the principles that guide the Green Ecologist Party. They pledged to closely monitor the case’s developments.

Fátima “N” holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the Autonomous University of Hidalgo (UAEH). Beyond her political candidacy, she has held various public service roles, including working in the state Comptroller’s office during Omar Fayad Meneses’s administration, serving as Head of Social Development in Pachuca’s Human and Social Development Secretariat under Sergio Baños, and acting as Executive Secretary of the Municipal Institute for Addiction Prevention in Pachuca.

While this incident raises serious concerns, it also highlights the importance of accountability and transparency within political parties. As Hidalgo continues to develop inclusive social policies, maintaining public trust in political figures remains crucial.
