Federal authorities confirmed on Monday, June 29, 2026, the arrest of Jovany “N,” known as “La Muñeca,” a suspect linked to the murder of Ximena Guzmán and José Muñoz, collaborators of Mexico City’s Head of Government, Clara Brugada.
The capture was announced by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and took place in Yautepec, Morelos. Jovany “N” was found in possession of a handgun and suspected drugs. He is believed to be part of a criminal cell involved in the attack.
Pablo Vázquez, head of Mexico City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), confirmed that the suspect belongs to an organized group with ongoing operations. Following his arrest, Jovany “N” was handed over to the Public Ministry agent of the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
This operation was a coordinated effort involving the SSPC, Mexico City’s Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía CDMX), and the SSC.
The murders of Ximena Guzmán Cuevas and José Muñoz Vega occurred on the morning of May 20, 2025, around 7:15 a.m. on Calzada de Tlalpan in the Benito Juárez borough’s Moderna neighborhood. Ximena was driving and stopped to pick up José as part of their daily routine when the attack happened.
Authorities say the killing was a carefully planned hit by an organized group that conducted surveillance to track the victims’ movements. After the shooting, the alleged hitman fled on a motorcycle and later switched vehicles with other members of the criminal cell to avoid detection.
Thanks to video surveillance footage, federal and local authorities reconstructed the escape route and identified several suspects involved.
This case highlights ongoing challenges in Mexico City’s security landscape but also reflects the importance of coordinated law enforcement efforts to bring perpetrators to justice. For residents and migrants alike, it underscores the critical role of public safety initiatives in protecting communities and public servants.
