Starting June 28, 2026, Puebla’s government will transform its popular Vía Recreativa Metropolitana into a weekly event, held every Sunday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. This move, announced by Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier and the Secretary of Mobility and Transport (SMT), responds directly to citizens’ calls for more accessible spaces dedicated to recreation, sports, and family gatherings.
The route stretches from La Paz to the Distribuidor Cholula, offering a safe, car-free environment that encourages walking, cycling, and community interaction. Since its launch under the current administration, the program has hosted 17 editions, attracting over 124,000 participants in total. On average, nearly 7,811 people join each event—a 63% increase compared to previous years—highlighting a growing public interest in active lifestyles and secure public spaces.
By making the Vía Recreativa a weekly fixture, Puebla is not only promoting healthier habits but also reinforcing a culture of active mobility that aligns with inclusive urban policies. This initiative creates a reliable, welcoming space for families and individuals to engage in physical activity and social connection, contributing to improved quality of life.
The government’s commitment to expanding safe, active, and inclusive mobility options reflects a broader vision of public policy that values community well-being and the positive use of public spaces. For residents and visitors alike, this weekly event offers a refreshing alternative to traditional transportation, complementing other sustainable projects like cable cars and teleféricos that aim to reshape Puebla’s urban landscape.
