The Puebla State Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) has confirmed it will distribute free school uniforms and shoes to students for the 2026-2027 school year, continuing a program aimed at easing the financial burden on families. Manuel Viveros Narciso, head of the SEP in Puebla, emphasized that the initiative seeks to keep investments local and directly benefit the state’s communities.
This support package will vary by education level: primary students will receive a t-shirt, sweater, shoes, and pants or skirt, while secondary students will get the same items except for shoes, following existing equity guidelines in government programs.
“Indeed, the free school uniform package will be offered to basic education students,” Viveros Narciso explained. “Its purpose is to support family economies and strengthen school retention.”
While the exact number of packages to be produced and distributed has yet to be finalized, the SEP expects figures similar to last year’s. For context, during the previous school cycle, over 657,000 pairs of shoes were handed out exclusively to primary students across Puebla’s regions.
Uniform designs will remain consistent with the current administration’s style: navy blue sweaters featuring the official state emblem, white polo shirts, and black shoes with a hazelnut-colored lining stamped with “free distribution.” The sleeves will display government identity slogans.
Distribution is planned to follow last year’s schedule, with adjudication processes taking place in July and formal delivery of backpacks containing uniforms set for August. This timing aligns with school enrollment periods, ensuring students are ready for the start of classes in public schools.
This program reflects a growing commitment to inclusive social policies that support education access and reduce economic barriers for families in Puebla, reinforcing the state’s role in fostering equitable opportunities for all students.
