Monte de Piedad Strike Nears Nine Months as Union Rules Out Early End

Post by usertopnews

The strike at Nacional Monte de Piedad is approaching its ninth month, having started on October 1, 2025, and the union has confirmed it will continue indefinitely until a formal negotiation table guarantees the protection of workers’ rights.

Guillermo Durán Ramón, secretary general of Section Four of the union in Aguascalientes, firmly denied rumors about an imminent end to the strike. After more than 260 days of work stoppage nationwide, the union’s position remains clear: no return to work without a signed agreement that safeguards the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCT) and prevents permanent changes or detriments to labor conditions.

Despite the ongoing strike, the union has maintained guard shifts at branches across Mexico, ensuring that pledged items remain secure. This situation has caused uncertainty among users, many of whom continue paying interest on loans while still unable to retrieve their items—even those who have fully paid off their loans.

Durán Ramón acknowledged that since José Antonio Murillo Garza took over as the new director of Monte de Piedad, dialogue channels in Mexico City have become more serious and in-depth. However, he emphasized that these conversations have yet to yield a definitive solution, and workers will not resume their duties until agreements are fully guaranteed.

The union leader highlighted the solidarity among workers in Aguascalientes, who have found alternative ways to support themselves financially during this period without neglecting their guard duties. While no concrete deal has been reached, there is cautious optimism for a resolution by late June or mid-July—though nothing is confirmed yet.

The reopening of branches and a return to normal operations will depend entirely on the company’s willingness to honor any agreements. Durán Ramón made it clear that partial payments or empty promises will not be accepted. Should the administration fail to comply, as it allegedly did with previous agreements, the union is prepared to continue legal actions and protests as necessary.

For users and workers alike, the ongoing strike underscores the importance of transparent negotiations and respect for labor rights in Mexico’s financial services sector.
