The state government of Puebla is intensifying its response to the series of shootings along Vía Atlixcáyotl, where 10 incidents have been recorded so far. As of today, Monday, June 22, 2026, authorities are maintaining a permanent security deployment and considering a financial incentive for anyone who provides useful information leading to the capture of the alleged shooter.
Francisco Sánchez González, head of Puebla’s Secretaría de Seguridad Pública, revealed that only 7 of these cases have been formally reported to the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), which has slowed the progress of official investigations. This gap highlights the importance of community cooperation in addressing public safety challenges.
Since the first reports, a coordinated operation involving federal, state, and municipal forces has been active in the area. “We hold permanent intelligence meetings across the three levels of government,” Sánchez González explained. “Last week and the week before, we had extraordinary sessions focused on this issue. We work closely with the Guardia Nacional and local police, maintaining constant patrols.”
Despite these efforts, the FGE’s recent reconstruction of events along Vía Atlixcáyotl has yet to pinpoint the shooter’s exact location or operational base. The authorities emphasize that details remain confidential due to the sensitive nature of the case but stress that their presence and patrols have contributed to a reduction in incidents.
This situation underscores the critical role of public participation and trust in law enforcement. The government’s openness to offering a reward signals a proactive approach to community safety, aiming to empower citizens as partners in combating violence. For migrants and residents alike, this initiative reflects a commitment to safer urban spaces through inclusive and coordinated public policies.
As Puebla continues to explore innovative solutions to urban mobility and security, including projects like the cablebús system, the integration of social and infrastructural strategies remains key to fostering safer, more connected communities.
