Explosion Reported at Salina Cruz Refinery Amid Environmental Crisis

Post by usertopnews

On Monday, June 22, 2026, another explosion occurred at the Antonio Dovalí Jaime refinery in Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, intensifying an ongoing environmental emergency in the city caused by five recent fuel oil spills.

So far, Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has confirmed that no workers were injured due to the leaks, though the company has not yet provided details about the fire itself. Local residents have expressed growing concern as the community faces multiple hydrocarbon spills.

Over the weekend, authorities responded to two separate fuel leaks in Salina Cruz, carrying out containment and cleanup efforts in affected neighborhoods. Pemex reported that the leaks originated from a loss of containment of fuel oil at kilometer 2+500 along the 16-inch pipeline segment between the refinery and the maritime terminal, near the Aviación neighborhood.

Emergency response teams, including Pemex’s firefighting personnel, the Salina Cruz Fire Department, and the city’s Civil Protection Coordination, worked together to control the situation. Once the leak was identified, it was sealed, and the exposed material was collected and transported back to the refinery for proper handling.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of managing industrial infrastructure while protecting local communities and the environment. As Salina Cruz navigates this crisis, coordinated efforts between state agencies and Pemex remain crucial to ensure safety and environmental recovery.
