The Mexico City government invested 135 million pesos to secure the broadcast rights for the World Cup matches, a cost that will be covered by more than 30 companies sponsoring 18 football festivals across the city’s boroughs. This figure only accounts for the rights themselves, excluding additional expenses such as tents, screens, chairs, and other necessary equipment at each venue.
During the announcement of this public-private partnership, Mexico City’s Head of Government, Clara Brugada, detailed that the funds will be reimbursed by participating companies through financial contributions, logistical support, in-kind donations, and equipment. This collaborative effort aims to ensure free and accessible live coverage of all World Cup games for residents.
This initiative reflects a growing trend in Mexico City to leverage partnerships between government and private sectors to enhance public services and cultural events, making large-scale sporting experiences more inclusive and community-oriented.
