On Thursday, Morena officially rejected claims circulating on social media that Abraham Hermosillo Álvarez, a 31-year-old Mexican detained in the United States for allegedly planning a drone attack during the UFC America 250 event, is affiliated with their party.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that Hermosillo Álvarez was arrested for his alleged role as the main organizer of a supposed terrorist plot targeting attendees and officials near the White House on President Donald Trump’s birthday. Following this, rumors spread online linking him to Morena, but U.S. authorities have not confirmed any such connection.
In response, Morena’s National Executive Committee issued a statement clarifying that Hermosillo Álvarez is not registered as a member in their party records or the National Electoral Institute’s registry. They emphasized that possession of party materials or propaganda does not imply affiliation or acting under Morena’s direction, calling such assumptions baseless and false.
Morena also condemned any violent acts or attempts to harm individuals or governments, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information. The party reaffirmed its commitment to legality, democracy, peace, and mutual respect among nations, stressing the importance of verified facts over misinformation or stigmatization.
This clarification comes amid a tense moment where misinformation can easily fuel division, highlighting the need for careful scrutiny of claims, especially those involving political groups and security threats.
