On Thursday, June 18, 2026, Puebla’s City Council gave a decisive 17-vote approval to transfer four municipal properties to the State Government, marking a key milestone in the development of the Cablebús system. This cable car project aims to revolutionize mobility in Puebla’s capital by offering a modern, efficient alternative to traditional public transport.
The approved sites include strategic locations such as Parque Biblioteca, Parque Juárez, Cerro de Amalucan, and a polygon at the intersection of Avenida 11 Sur and Bulevar Las Margaritas. These areas will host essential infrastructure for the cable car network, designed to move up to 90,000 passengers daily without adding congestion to city streets.
Mónica Silva, the city’s municipal trustee, expressed a positive stance on the land transfer, highlighting its designation as a public utility. This endorsement reflects the broader vision of the state administration to invest in inclusive, sustainable transportation solutions that address Puebla’s growing urban challenges.
Cable car systems like this have proven successful in cities such as Medellín, Colombia; La Paz, Bolivia; and Mexico City, where they complement existing transit networks by reducing travel times, lowering pollution, and connecting high-demand neighborhoods quickly and efficiently.
With this approval, the State Government can now advance studies, planning, and infrastructure development to bring the Cablebús project to life—offering thousands of Puebla residents a new, accessible way to navigate their city. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote equitable urban mobility and environmental responsibility in Mexican cities.
