On the afternoon of June 16, authorities in Puebla successfully rescued an elderly couple from Yucatán who fell victim to a virtual kidnapping extortion while staying at a hotel in Puebla’s historic center.

The incident unfolded at Hotel Diana Único, located on 5 Poniente between 16 de Septiembre and 3 Sur streets. Following reports of the couple’s disappearance and lack of communication, a coordinated operation was launched involving the State Tourist Police, the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), and officials from Yucatán.

Authorities found the couple unharmed inside the hotel and successfully prevented the extortion attempt, which involved criminals demanding money from the victims’ relatives in exchange for their supposed release.
