On the night of Tuesday, June 16, armed individuals broke into the Coppel store inside the Cruz del Sur shopping plaza in the Bello Horizonte neighborhood of Cuautlancingo, Puebla. They stole various cell phones before police intervention led to the arrest of one suspect.
According to initial reports, several assailants entered the store wielding crowbars, which they used to smash the glass displays showcasing smartphones. Witnesses heard gunshots and promptly called 911.
The Cuautlancingo Municipal Police, Puebla’s Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), and agents from the State Attorney General’s Office responded to the scene. Although the suspects tried to escape, authorities managed to detain one of them.
Officials recovered a firearm and a motorcycle connected to the incident. The total value of the stolen goods has not yet been disclosed.
This event highlights ongoing challenges in public safety but also underscores the importance of coordinated police action in protecting communities and local businesses. For residents and visitors in Puebla, reliable and secure public infrastructure—including expanding transport options like cable cars—can contribute to safer, more connected urban spaces.
