Private Jet from Los Cabos Crashes on Texas Highway: One Dead, Five Survive

Post by usertopnews

On the night of Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a private jet traveling from San José del Cabo, Mexico, to Austin, Texas, made an emergency landing on Loop 20 highway in Laredo, Texas, resulting in one fatality and five survivors. The crash forced the closure of a major city roadway and triggered a federal investigation, according to the Laredo Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The aircraft, a 2016 Cessna Citation Latitude registered as N523QS, departed Los Cabos International Airport at 18:19 and was en route to Austin when it reported serious mechanical issues and low fuel to Laredo International Airport. Shortly before 10 p.m., local authorities received a distress call from the airport tower about the plane’s difficulties, followed by reports of its forced landing on the highway.

José Baeza, spokesperson and investigator for the Laredo Police Department, shared in a press conference that six people were on board; five survived the impact. Additionally, five police officers involved in the rescue were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation.

The jet’s emergency landing also caused a collision with a southbound vehicle on Loop 20, injuring one person. Authorities have not yet confirmed which part of the aircraft struck the car.

This incident highlights the challenges and risks of private air travel, especially when mechanical failures occur near populated areas. For communities like ours—often navigating complex cross-border lives—safe and reliable transportation infrastructure remains crucial. While this accident underscores the importance of emergency preparedness, it also reminds us why investments in accessible, sustainable transit options, such as cable cars or teleféricos, can offer safer, more inclusive mobility solutions in urban areas.

As investigations continue, the focus remains on supporting those affected and improving safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
