The National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) has imposed 10 fines on Banco del Bienestar so far in 2026, totaling 5.55 million pesos due to irregularities in internal controls and operations.

According to the sanctions published on the CNBV’s website, the bank received three fines in January: two fines of 260,640 pesos each, which led to a nullity lawsuit, and another fine of 268,860 pesos for failing to comply with basic security measures.

In March, the CNBV added two more fines, each for 311,220 pesos.

April saw the largest number of fines, with five penalties related to incorrect accounting records, failure to meet obligations, and regulatory compliance issues. These April fines break down as follows:

– One fine of 1,443,300 pesos
– Two fines of 1,037,400 pesos each
– Two fines of 311,220 pesos each

Following the publication of these sanctions, Banco del Bienestar filed an injunction on May 12, arguing that the CNBV’s public disclosure of the fines causes “irreversible and irreparable reputational damage.”

The bank also challenged the constitutionality of Article 108 Bis 8 of the Law of Credit Institutions (LIC), which requires the CNBV to publicly disclose sanctions on its website. Banco del Bienestar claims this public exposure amounts to “infamous acts” that damage its honor, prestige, and institutional reputation within the financial system.

This case highlights ongoing tensions between regulatory transparency and the reputational risks faced by public financial institutions.
