Sheinbaum Rules Out New Meetings Between Mexican Government and CNTE

Post by usertopnews

On Monday, June 15, 2026, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that the federal government has no plans to hold new direct meetings with the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE). Instead, she emphasized that dialogue will continue through tripartite meetings involving the states.

Speaking during the morning press conference known as La Mañanera, Sheinbaum stated, “For now, no. What is planned are tripartite meetings in the states.”

This announcement comes after weeks of CNTE protests in Mexico City’s historic center, which have caused economic losses for local merchants. The teachers’ union demands the repeal of the ISSSTE law (Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado), a request authorities have deemed unfeasible.

Sheinbaum also noted that the number of protesters has significantly decreased in recent days, signaling a possible easing of tensions.

For migrants and residents navigating Mexico City, these developments highlight the ongoing challenges of balancing social demands with urban life and commerce. Meanwhile, the government’s approach to dialogue through state-level tripartite talks suggests a more decentralized and potentially inclusive path forward.
