28 de Octubre March Causes Traffic Chaos in Downtown Puebla

Post by usertopnews

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, members of the Unión Popular de Vendedores Ambulantes (UPVA) 28 de Octubre staged a march that significantly disrupted traffic in Puebla’s city center. The protest began at 9:00 a.m. at the Fuente de los Frailes on Avenida Juárez, proceeded along Reforma from Paseo Bravo, and ended with a sit-in at the Zócalo of Puebla.

From early morning, demonstrators gathered at the Fuente de los Frailes before advancing down Avenida Juárez toward the Historic Center. The group then turned left onto 13 Poniente and continued along Reforma until reaching the main square.

This mobilization caused partial and full closures on key avenues such as Avenida Juárez, 13 Poniente, Reforma, and surrounding streets, leading to significant traffic congestion. Public transportation routes, including the RUTA buses that run through these areas, were forced to alter their paths temporarily, resulting in delays for thousands of commuters.

Authorities recommend drivers and public transit users to seek alternative routes, plan ahead, and stay updated with mobility reports to avoid disruptions during the march.

While the UPVA 28 de Octubre has not specified how long the sit-in at the Zócalo will last, the traffic impact could extend for several hours after the march concludes.

For Puebla’s residents and visitors, this event highlights the ongoing challenges of urban mobility and the importance of inclusive, efficient public transportation solutions—like the upcoming cablebús project—that could ease congestion and provide accessible transit options for all.
