Mexico City Urges Fans to Arrive Early for World Cup Opener Amid Planned Protests

Post by usertopnews

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, Mexico City authorities are advising soccer fans attending the World Cup opening match at Estadio Azteca to arrive at least six hours early—around 7 or 8 a.m.—and even consider having breakfast nearby. This precaution comes ahead of expected protests by the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) and some mothers searching for missing persons, who plan to mobilize around the stadium.

In a press conference, city officials assured that everyone with a ticket will be able to enter the stadium despite the anticipated demonstrations and possible blockades. César Cravioto emphasized the importance of early arrival to ease access and avoid last-minute complications: “We only ask fans to arrive as early as possible, so they can have breakfast near the stadium and then enter more calmly.”

The government guarantees free access to tourists and attendees of the Mexico vs. South Africa match, the tournament’s inaugural game. However, Cravioto warned that those arriving just minutes before kickoff might face difficulties due to the protests.

With just two days remaining before the World Cup begins, various groups, including teachers and social organizations, are preparing protests around Estadio Azteca. The city’s call for early arrival aims to balance security measures with the right to peaceful demonstration, ensuring a smooth experience for fans and respecting civic participation.
